On September 11, 2025, MCLA hosted a powerful talk by Michael Hingson, a 9/11 survivor and bestselling author of Thunder Dog. Speaking to students, faculty, and community members, Hingson reflected on his extraordinary experience escaping the World Trade Center’s 78th floor with the help of his guide dog, Roselle.
Blind since birth, Hingson emphasized themes of trust, teamwork, and courage in the face of crisis. “We all have limitations,” he said, “but it’s how we respond to them that defines us.” His message resonated deeply with students, many of whom stayed afterward to ask questions and share reflections.
The event was part of MCLA’s community dialogue series, bringing voices of resilience and leadership to campus. Hingson also discussed accessibility, disability awareness, and the lessons his story continues to offer more than two decades after 9/11.
