Students at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts recently produced a visual podcast discussing drag culture as part of a classroom project in the Storytelling Across Digital Media II course.
In the episode, students Benjamin Macfadzen, Kai Amuso and Isaiah Hawley lead a panel-style conversation exploring the history of drag culture, its cultural significance and its role as a form of artistic expression and performance.
For the project, the students recorded their discussion in front of a green screen. The footage was first processed in Adobe After Effects to adjust lighting and refine the green screen compositing, and then edited and assembled in Adobe Premiere Pro.
The assignment gave students hands-on experience with green screen production, visual podcast formats and multimedia storytelling techniques.
Projects like this encourage students to experiment with visual and audio podcast formats and contribute new forms of storytelling to The Online Beacon and the broader MCLA community.
