NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MassMoCA) opened a new exhibition in March titled Technologies of Relation, exploring how technology shapes the way people communicate, interact, and experience the world.
Located on the third floor of Building 6, the exhibition features work from a group of international artists examining the evolving relationship between humans and technology.
Artists featured in the exhibition include Morehshin Allahyari, Pelenakeke Brown, Taeyoon Choi, Neema Githere, Kite, Lauren Lee McCarthy, Analia Saba, Roopa Vasudevan, and Mashinka Firunts Hakopian, among others.
The exhibition explores how digital technologies have become embedded in everyday life—from communication tools to artificial intelligence.
“Digital technologies are embedded in nearly every aspect of our lives,” said Susan Cross, curator of the exhibition. “They are in our hands, our homes, our work, and all around the world.”
According to Cross, the exhibition encourages visitors to think critically about how technology influences daily routines and social relationships.
Several pieces in the exhibit explore both older and newer technologies. Some works examine emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, while others reflect on earlier forms of digital communication that helped shape today’s online world.
Artist Roopa Vasudevan’s work, for example, reflects on the evolution of internet communication—from early modem-based connections to instant messaging and social networking platforms used today.
Another featured piece includes a series of experiments by artist Neema Githere exploring artificial intelligence as what the artist describes as “poetic counter-intelligence.” The work examines how digital time and media interact with human perception.
According to MassMoCA, exhibitions such as Technologies of Relation may remain on view anywhere from six months to two years.
